Question
Why is it recommended to wash the hands at the beginning of ablution?
Answer
I say, and with Allah's success: It is recommended to wash the hands up to the wrists at the beginning of the washing before the other parts; because they are the tools of purification, and to avoid the suspicion of impurity on them, so their washing is prioritized to prevent impurity from spreading in the body. This is after mentioning the name of Allah and the intention; as narrated by Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her: "When the Prophet (peace be upon him) would perform Ghusl (ritual washing) from Janabah (major impurity), he would start by washing his hands, then perform Wudu (ablution) as he does for prayer, then he would put his fingers in the water and comb through the roots of his hair, then he would pour three handfuls of water over his head, and then he would pour water over his entire body," in Sahih al-Bukhari 1: 99. See: Majma' al-Anhar 1: 22, and Allah knows best.
