Coercion That Permits Breaking the Fast in Ramadan

Question
What is the coercion that permits breaking the fast in Ramadan?
Answer
It is coercion to break the fast under threat of death for a healthy resident; as narrated by Ibn Abbas from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who said: ((Indeed, Allah has excused my nation for mistakes, forgetfulness, and what they are coerced into)). In Sunan Ibn Majah 29:5, and Sahih Ibn Hibban 87:11. Fasting is preferable, even if one refrains from breaking the fast until death, he will be rewarded for it; because the obligation remains during coercion, and the effect of the concession in coercion is the removal of sin for abstaining, not the removal of obligation. Rather, the obligation remains established, and abstaining is forbidden. If fasting is obligatory during coercion and breaking the fast is forbidden, then the right of Allah Almighty is upheld. By refraining, he is sacrificing himself to establish the right of Allah Almighty in pursuit of His pleasure, thus he is striving in his religion and will be rewarded for it.
