Question
What is the ruling for someone who cannot fast due to a chronic illness?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: He has the option to either feed a poor person two satisfying meals for each day, or to pay the equivalent of the Zakat al-Fitr, which is half a Sa' of wheat, equal to (1.820) kilograms given to the poor. This ruling applies if he has not recovered from his illness; however, if God grants him recovery, he must make up the fast even if he has paid the compensation. And God knows best.
