Ruling on Paying Off the Debt of the Deceased
The grandfather passed away 50 years ago and had a debt of 30 dinars. Is it permissible for the grandson to pay off this debt on behalf of the grandfather, and should he pay it himself or more? How can he do that if he does not know the creditor or any of the heirs?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is recommended to give charity equivalent to it if he does not know the debtor, and God knows best.
