Question
A widow whose husband passed away left her with two children and an inheritance. Due to compelling reasons, they were forced to leave their home, and she wanted to save the money to marry off her son and ensure their livelihood. Is there Zakat due on this money if it reaches the Nisab?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: She should divide the money between herself and her children. The money of the children, if they are not of age, is not subject to zakat even if it reaches the nisab. For those who reach maturity and have wealth equal to the nisab, zakat is obligatory on it. The wife's wealth, if it reaches the nisab, is also subject to zakat. And God knows best.
