The Art of Eloquence in the Adhan

Question
What is eloquence in the Adhan, and what is its ruling?
Answer
Al-Tarassul: It is to be deliberate, and it is a Sunnah in the call to prayer (adhan); because the adhan is to inform those who are absent about the arrival of the time, and this is more effective in being deliberate. It was narrated from Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said to Bilal: "When you call the adhan, be deliberate in your call, and when you establish the prayer, be quick, and make the time between your adhan and your iqamah enough for the eater to finish eating, the drinker to finish drinking, and the one who needs to relieve himself to do so." This is found in Al-Mustadrak 1: 320, and Al-Hakim said: Its chain of narration is not criticized. It is also in Sunan Al-Tirmidhi 1: 373, Musnad Abd Ibn Hamid 1: 310, and Al-Mu'jam Al-Awsat 2: 270. And from Abu Al-Zubair, may Allah be pleased with him, the muezzin of Al-Aqsa, he said: "Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, came to us and said: When you call the adhan, be deliberate, and when you establish the prayer, be quick." This is in Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 1: 195, and its chain is acceptable as mentioned in I'laa Al-Sunan 1: 104. See: Sharh Al-Wiqayah p. 140.
