The Considered Time for Repaying Gold Debt
A woman helped another in her financial crisis by giving her a gold bracelet to sell and meet her needs. How should the repayment be made? Should it be the same amount for which the bracelet was sold, or based on its weight since the price of gold fluctuates?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: If she gave her money, she should repay her with money; because the debt is in money, and her right is in the same amount that she gave. If she gave her gold, then she must repay with gold. However, if she said to her: I will give you the bracelet as a loan, then sold it to her and gave her its value, you must repay the value of the bracelet. And God knows best.
