Question
Regarding the Takbir on the days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, our Hanafi scholars differentiated between the Takbir of Eid al-Fitr, which they deemed recommended, and the Takbir of Eid al-Adha, which they deemed obligatory, even though the evidence for the legitimacy of the Takbir in the verse appears in relation to Eid al-Fitr: 'And that you may glorify Allah for what He has guided you' and not for Eid al-Adha. What is the clarification of this?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: There are other evidences indicating the obligation, including His saying: {And remember Allah during the numbered days} Al-Baqarah: 205. And from 'Amir ibn Sa'id, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: "Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, came to us and he would say Takbir from the Fajr prayer on the day of Arafah until the 'Asr prayer of the last days of Tashreeq" in Al-Mustadrak, and it was authenticated. And Allah knows best.
