Question
Is it necessary for the muezzin to call to prayer while standing?
Answer
It is recommended to perform the call to prayer while standing when the muezzin calls for the congregation, and it is disliked for him to call while sitting; because people have inherited this practice, so one who neglects it is considered to be in error for contradicting the consensus of the community; and because the complete announcement is while standing. It was narrated from Abd al-Jabbar ibn Wa'il from his father who said: "It is a right and a prescribed Sunnah that a man should not call to prayer unless he is in a state of purity, and he should not call unless he is standing," as found in the Sunan al-Bayhaqi al-Kabir 1: 392, and Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 1: 465, and in the Takhlees 1: 205: its chain is good except that there is a break in it.
