Question
What is the ruling on cupping for the fasting person?
Answer
Cupping is not disliked for the fasting person unless it weakens him. Refer to: Al-Sharnubliyyah 1: 208, and Al-Hadiyyah Al-‘Alaiyyah p. 171; for Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, had cupped while he was fasting," in Sahih Ibn Hibban 8: 300, and Jami' Al-Tirmidhi 3: 147, and in another narration: "Indeed, the Prophet, peace be upon him, had cupped while he was in a state of Ihram, and he cupped while he was fasting," in Sahih Al-Bukhari 2: 685. And from Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him: "Indeed, the Prophet, peace be upon him, had cupped while he was fasting," in Al-Sunan Al-Kubra 2: 236. And from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Three things do not break the fast: vomiting, wet dreams, and cupping," in Sunan Al-Bayhaqi Al-Kabir 4: 220. And the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Neither vomiting nor cupping nor wet dreams break the fast," in Musannaf Abdul Razzaq 4: 213, and Sunan Al-Bayhaqi Al-Kabir 4: 220.
