The Ruling on Giving Zakat to a Sister
Is it permissible for me to give the zakat from the gold I own to my widowed sister, knowing that what I will pay as zakat is from my own money and not in the form of gold?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is permissible to give to your poor sister, and you will receive two rewards: the reward of zakat and the reward of maintaining family ties. It is also permissible for you to give in any form you wish, whether in money, goods, or otherwise. And God knows best.
