Question
What is the ruling on kissing for the fasting person during the day of Ramadan?
Answer
Kissing that is not lewd, as well as touching and hugging, is not disliked for the fasting person who is safe from temptation. However, a lewd kiss is disliked even if one is safe from temptation. Refer to: Al-Hadiyah Al-Ala'iyah, p. 171. As for what was narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would kiss her while he was fasting and suck her tongue," it is found in Sunan Abu Dawood 2: 311, Sunan Al-Bayhaqi Al-Kabir 4: 234, and Musnad Ahmad 123, 234. Al-Manawi said in Fath Al-Qadeer 1: 225 and Ibn Hajar in Fath Al-Bari 4: 153: Its chain is weak. Even if it is authentic, it is understood in the context of not swallowing the saliva that mixed with hers.
