The Agent Paying Zakat to Those Who Do Not Deserve It
A person gave me an amount of money as zakat for his wealth to be spent on those who deserve it. Is it permissible for me to take an amount from it and buy gifts to give to the winners of a competition for students who memorize the Quran?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It is permissible to give zakat to one who memorizes the Quran; because he is deserving of it. If the previous authorization to pay zakat was to allow you to give it to every eligible recipient, it is permissible to give them something from the zakat. And God knows best.
